National athletics stakeholders have reaffirmed their confidence in the ongoing efforts of sports administrators and the National Sports Commission (NSC) toward the growth and welfare of Nigerian athletes, following recent comments credited to athletics coach and AFN board member, Olalekan Soetan.
While differing opinions remain part of every progressive sports system, several stakeholders have maintained that Nigerian athletes continue to receive necessary support through the combined efforts of the government, the NSC, and athletics administrators working tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure smooth preparation and participation at competitions.
Particular commendation has been directed at Bukola Olopade, whose commitment and leadership have consistently placed athletes’ welfare and development at the forefront. Observers within the sports sector noted that he has remained actively involved in ensuring that athletes and officials receive the required support and attention in line with available resources and operational realities.
They further emphasized that sports administration comes with enormous responsibilities, many of which are not always visible to the public, but are critical to the success and stability of the system. According to stakeholders, administrators continue to work under demanding conditions while striving to improve structures, athlete welfare, logistics, and international representation for Nigerian sports.
Responding to concerns raised publicly, stakeholders advised that individuals seeking clarity on certain decisions or processes should engage directly with the appropriate administrators and officials to obtain accurate and firsthand information, rather than relying on assumptions or incomplete narratives.
They stressed that constructive engagement, unity, and collaboration among coaches, athletes, and administrators remain essential for the continued progress of Nigerian athletics and the overall development of sports in the country.
