The Extraordinary Congress of the AthIetics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), will hold today.

The meeting which will be virtual, via Zoom Video Conferencing was called to take a final decision on the venue of the forthcoming elections into the AFN.

All the chairmen and secretaries of the 36 State of the Athletics Association including Abuja as well as the current AFN board members and a representative of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC), are expected to attend the emergency congress to be chaired by AFN President Chief Tonobok Okowa.

The Congress is expected to begin by 2pm Nigeria time and it will x-ray the advise by the National Sports Commission (NSC), to move the venue of the presidential election from Asaba, the Delta State capital to Abuja.

The NSC believes that Asaba is not a neutral venue because three of the candidates seeking to lead the Athletics Federation of Nigeria for the next four years are from that State.

The Congress which is the highest organ of the Federation is expected to decide on the final venue and other arrangements for the polls.

The AFN President who also doubles as the President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Zone II, told your authoritative and award-winning news channel FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG, that all the delegates have been duly notified and all other logistics for a hitch free connective have been taken care of.

26 States delegates attended the last AFN Congress in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, South South, Nigeria, where some far reaching decisions on the polls were reached as well as how the sport should go in the next four years.
