Desiree Ellis, head coach of South Africa women’s national team, has claimed that her team was superior, despite their 2-1 agonizing defeat to Nigeria in Tuesday’s WAFCON semi-final in Casablanca, Morocco.
In a post match conference, Desiree lamented that Banyana Banyana does not deserve to loose because they tormented the Super Falcons and had them chasing shadows for most parts of the game.
She believed they had the game under control and could have won if they had utilized all their chances, but sadly, success refused to smile on their efforts.
”We almost got over the line, the way we moved the ball round, I thought it was pure joy, we had them chasing shadows, and I don’t think we deserve to loose but we didn’t take our chances, if we had taken our chances we could be speaking differently now.”
”Today we were a team with less recovery, we traveled and we had match day minus one, whereas Nigeria had an extra one. today we didn’t look like a team that played a 120 minutes in the quarterfinal.” she said.
A late Michelle Alozie’s cross into the box in the 90+4 minute beats South Africa’s goalkeeper, Dlamini to secure a 2-1 victory for the Super Falcons.
Nigeria will face host Morocco who defeated Ghana on penalties to reach the WAFCON finals which will be played at the Olympic Stadium on Saturday, in Rabat Morocco.
