As the countdown to the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) ticks under 24 days, Kenya’s readiness to host the continental football showpiece is taking final shape, marked by a remarkable facelift of its two flagship venues, Nyayo National Stadium and Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani.

‎Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo has provided a detailed, fresh update on the extensive renovation works, confirming that Nyayo Stadium is nearing full completion.

According to PS Omollo, all crucial facilities at the stadium are now complete and meet CAF’s strict international standards.

‎”We’re in the final phase, and I’m pleased to confirm that all essential areas have been completed. Nyayo is now fully aligned with CAF requirements,” stated PS Omollo on his official Facebook page.

‎Among the key upgrades are fully operational player changing rooms, officials’ quarters, a ball boys’ area, a medical centre, an anti-doping control zone, recovery and massage rooms, and dedicated briefing spaces for match officials.

The media tribune has also been modernised to seat 86 journalists and is supported by a high-tech Voice-Over-Control (VoC) system integrated with CCTV for enhanced security and match-day coordination.

Newly built presidential and second-floor VIP lounges now offer premium hospitality for state officials and dignitaries, reflecting the venue’s readiness to host high-profile events.

Additionally, Nyayo Stadium will serve as the official headquarters for CAF during CHAN 2024, with office space now fully equipped and functional.

Lighting has been significantly upgraded, with floodlights rated at 3000 lux, guaranteeing superior visibility during evening and night matches.

The redesigned seating layout now accommodates 18,000 fans across presidential, VVIP, VIP, and regular stands—delivering both comfort and a world-class stadium experience.

Nyayo, alongside Kasarani Stadium, which was recently cleared and is ready after completion of extensive renovation work, will host Group A fixtures during the tournament.

‎The 2024 CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, will run from Saturday, 2 to Saturday, 30 August.
