Nigeria’s D’Tigress are through to the semifinals of the ongoing women’s Afrobasket, beating Cameroon 83-47 in a one sided affair to reach the last four.
D’Tigress 36pts gap in the quarterfinals against Cameroon showed an improved performance compared to their last group game where they managed to beat Mozambique by 5pts margin.
The coach Rena Wakama’s ladies were unmatched in the game, they turned up the heat on both ends, locking down Cameroon and showing just how deep and dangerous they are against any opposition.
Amy Okonkwo was irresistible, dropping 18 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist, leading Nigeria’s charge with pure intensity. She was well supported by Nicole Enabosi (12 pts, 3 reb, 2 ast), Victoria Macaulay (12 pts, 4 reb, 1 ast), and Elizabeth Balogun (11 pts, 5 reb).
Skipper, Sarah Ogoke returned to the team, and was in on the act with a 3pt bucket for Nigeria. All 12 players had a run-out against Cameroon, and they all found the bucket.
D’Tigress are now just two wins away from making history as the first African team to win five straight Afrobasket titles. They haven’t lost a game since 2017, showing an entire decade of dominance.
Nigeria will play Senegal, in what promises to be mouthwatering and a delectable semi-final clash between two familiar foes.
