As the clock continues to tick towards the upcoming National Sports Federation’s Election, the Zonal Representative Candidate for the Nigerian Table Tennis Federation, Dr. Shaibu D Mohammed has assured he will give global exposure and recognition to players and official’s of Table Tennis if he’s elected into office.
While speaking on a WhatsApp platform on Monday evening, Dr. shaibu said for Table Tennis to gain the needed global recognition, key area’s needs to be addressed, such as advancing coaches knowledge and capacity, improving facilities, as well as hosting international events.
”One of the problems we have with not being at the global stage has got to do with our lack of representation, particularly with our coaches and officials at that level.”
“Our coaches and officials are limited to Nigeria, and that limits our chances of having a strong voice at the global stage, so I think that, by the time we’re able to put some money or some seriousness on the coaching crew and administrators and send them abroad for courses, they’ll be able to network and have their own contact and become a part of that global system.”
“We can also begin by improving our facilities, bring in global events to be hosted by Nigeria, just like we’re doing with barrister Oshodi bringing the WTTF to Nigeria, we need more of such recognized global table tennis events to be held in Africa and in Nigeria, and with this, we’ll gradually become a force to be reckoned with.”
He noted that addressing these grey areas will give Nigeria visibility and a stronger footing, making it difficult for our athletes to be shoved aside at any global showpiece.
”Once we’re able to achieve this, It will also make us to have a clearer visibility globally, making it difficult for us to be shoved aside at the global stage.” he stated.
