It was a solid performance for Nigerian international, Ifeanyi Mathew, who posted a commanding display on his debut to help his new club, Neftçi FC to a 2-2 home draw against Araz-Naxçıvan in the elite division of Azerbaijani league on Sunday evening.

Sambou opened scoring for Neftçi FC in the 19th minute, while Simakala levelled score in the 36th minute and got his brace for his side
Araz-Naxçıvan, eleven minutes later to stay ahead at half time.

Eighteen minutes on from recess, Makhmudov restored parity for Neftçi FC in a tight and keenly contested encounter to make it even at full time

It was a moment to savour for the former home based Super Eagles midfield maestro Ifeanyi Mathew, who recently switched from FC Zurich at the expiration of his contract with the Swiss club to continue his sojourn with Neftçi FC in Azerbaijan.

Ifeanyi Mathew who was subbed on in the 60th minute of action, instilled character, great composure and exerted authority both defensively and offensively.

His addition brought stability and strength to his team’s midfield display and were a threat in several offensive break outs.

Sunday’s draw has placed Neftçi FC 7th on the log and the team will fancy their chances when they travel on the roads next week to face Gabala FC in an away game.
