One week after making his debut for his new club, Neftci FC, Nigeria international and former FC Zurich of Switzerland midfielder, Ifeanyi Mathew is taking the Azerbaijani league by storm.

The former Kano Pillars marksman has activated his goalscoring skills, as he was on target for his side when they defeated Gabala FC 2-0 away from home on Sunday.

The match which could be described as a cagey affair saw Mathew breaking the deadlock in the 71st minute with a powerful strike against the run of play to give his side the lead, while his Cameroonian teammate, Vincent Aboubakar increased the tally ten minutes later to hand Neftci FC a comfortable 2-0 win against Gabala FC.

Consolidating on Sunday’s away win against Gabala FC, the team has also gone ahead to record another big win in midweek Azerbaijani Cup competition, walloping MOIK Baku 6-2 to advance to the next stage of the cup game.

Ifeanyi Mathew has become Neftci FC’s mainstay and already becoming fans favourite with his work rate and his general contributions to the team’s success.

He is expected to be in action again this weekend when his team  play host to Kapaz PFK in match day 10 of the ongoing regular Azerbaijani  league season.
