As anticipation continues to build towards the start of this year’s women Africa Cup nations in Morocco, Super Falcons midfield sensation, Jennifer Echegini says the stakes for African women’s football are high following their 3-1 victory over Ghana in a pre-WAFCON friendly where she served as a second half substitute.
Speaking exclusively to Continentalnews.com.ng, Echegini says playing against African opponents is always tough, as other teams often feel motivated to challenge them and achieve a victory, and that she expects dogged and resilient challenge from other teams when the tournament gets underway
”I have played a couple of games against African opponents and it’s always very difficult, they’re always very tough, so am expecting this WAFCON to be tough or even tougher, because every team always wants to beat us to be the best in Africa”
Speaking further, the Paris Saint-Germain creative midfielder is optimistic of their chances of becoming champions on the continent, stressing they don’t want an easy ride to become champions of Africa.
”We don’t want an easy ride to become champions, the more difficult the game is, the better for us in general, so, I’d believe it’s going to be a bit tougher, I don’t think it will be easy but I have 100% faith and full confidence that we’ll become champions”
Nigeria will get her campaign underway on July 6th against Tunisia, then face Botswana and Algeria in group B of this year’s WAFCON tournament in Morocco
