As football continues to grow into one of the largest industries globally, with education playing an increasingly vital role in its evolution, the John Utaka Football Academy (JUFA) has taken a significant step toward repositioning itself as a leading institution in Nigeria. The academy recently sealed a strategic partnership with New Gate University, Minna, aimed at supporting young footballers in combining academic pursuits with their sporting ambitions.

The partnership is designed to address the concerns of parents who wish to see their children excel both on the pitch and in the classroom. At the formal signing ceremony held in Minna, Niger State, Usman Chata, Vice President of JUFA, emphasized the academy’s commitment to the holistic development of its players.

“JUFA is proud to partner with New Gate University, Minna,” Chata said. “This collaboration creates an opportunity for our players to pursue academic excellence while continuing to develop their football careers. It assures parents that their children can indeed balance education and football without sacrificing one for the other.”

“We are also committed to supporting underprivileged children who have talent but lack the means to pursue their education. Through this partnership, we can help them achieve their dream of going to school while developing their football careers.”

Mohammed Abdullahi, Registrar of New Gate University, highlighted the reputation and credibility of JUFA as a key factor in the university’s decision to enter the partnership.

“The academy is owned by a Super Eagles legend with an extensive network across Europe. We studied JUFA’s track record and saw how they invest in the growth and discipline of their players, which aligns perfectly with our values at New Gate University,” Abdullahi stated. “This partnership marks the beginning of a mutually beneficial relationship.”

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by both institutions is expected to open new doors for aspiring footballers who are equally passionate about academic achievement. It represents a progressive shift in how sports academies and educational institutions can work together to nurture well-rounded individuals prepared for success both on and off the field.
