Justine Madugu delighted with Ballon d’Or nomination

Justine Madugu, head coach of Nigeria’s Super Falcons has expressed happiness and honor at being chosen as a candidate for the 2025 Ballon d’Or award, continentalnews.com.ng, reports.

Madugu who recently led Nigeria to winning her 10th WAFCON title in Morocco, was nominated alongside Chiamaka Nnadozie, in the women’s coach of the year and the Yachine Trophy category respectively by the organizers of the Balon D’or.

Speaking exclusively to continentalnews.com.ng, Madugu says he’s very pleased and happy to be nominated, and beside the respect it accords Nigeria, the nomination also serve to validate Africa’s contributions on the global stage.

“It feels great and am honoured to be nominated for such a prestigious award, and I’m much delighted by the honour, privilege, respect, publicity and appreciation the award accords Nigeria and Africa as a whole.”

He further stated that hard work and dedication played a crucial role, while appreciating the collective collaboration of the NFF President, the General Secretary, players and other backroom staff for their efforts.

“We thank God for this privilege as we further appreciate our players, technical crew, backroom staff, the President, GS, board members, management and staff of the NFF, our entire country men and women, well wishers and supporters across the African continent and beyond, we really cannot thank you enough for this recognition and appreciation of our efforts.” He stated.

The Ballon d’Or is one of the most prestigious individual awards in football. It is presented annually by the French magazine France Football to the best male and female football players and coaches in the world.

Madugu is the first Nigerian coach to be nominated for ‘Coach of the Year’ by the organisers.
