Umechi Akuazaoku, former Green Lock FC player, was the match winner for his side Sakaryaspor K.D, when they defeated Iğdır F.K. 3-2 in the second tier of the Turkish football league system on Sunday.
Umechi, a product of Derot FC Academy who recently joined Sakaryaspor during the current transfer window, inspired his side’s win barely three minutes on from the bench, getting his name registered on the score sheet.
The game was tied at 2-2 when the vibrant and energetic Umechi fearlessly pounced on an inswinger from a corner kick and found the back of the net, even in the midst of a packed defence to hand his side the much desired win.
In his post match reaction, Umechi said “First of all I just want to thank God, without him I don’t think this would have been possible, and am just happy to help the team coming off the bench. This is a very good team, am just happy for the guys and the rest of the team, I’m just so so happy.” He said.
This is the first goal for the 22 year old, featuring in his second game for Sakaryaspor since he officially penned a deal with the Turkish outfit on 7, August, 2025.
Sakaryaspor are currently 5th in the TFF First League, and will be aiming to gain promotion to the elite division and feature in the Turkish Super Lig, next season.
