The Nigeria Football Federation has outlined the Super Falcons’ route to the 2028 Olympic Women’s Football Tournament in Los Angeles, expressing confidence that the 10-time African champions can secure another appearance at the Games after featuring at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Nigeria will begin their qualifying campaign in the second round against Comoros, with both legs scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on 9th and 13th October 2026. The Super Falcons will be hoping to make home advantage count across the two encounters.
As one of the three highest-ranked teams in the qualifying series, Nigeria received a bye into the second round. Comoros reached this stage after thrashing Sudan 30-0 on aggregate. Victory over Comoros will send the Falcons into the third round, scheduled for 23rd February – 6th March 2027, where they could face either DR Congo or Morocco.
Should Nigeria advance to the fourth round, they will meet one of Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali between 4th and 12th October 2027. The Falcons will need to maintain their momentum through each stage as they pursue one of Africa’s two available places at the Los Angeles tournament.
The final round is scheduled for 23rd November – 4th December 2027, with Nigeria potentially facing Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria or Burkina Faso. The Super Falcons must successfully navigate all four rounds of two-legged knockout ties to book their place at Los Angeles 2028.
